Higher Apprenticeships

Getting qualified. Whether it’s a degree or professional status, it’s a huge achievement that can completely change your prospects – but it’s not always open to everyone. Some of us can’t afford it. For others, the timing just wasn’t right. But with our Higher Apprenticeship, all you need is at least 80 UCAS points (or predicted) from 2017 onwards; or 200 UCAS points pre-2017, or a year’s work experience, and we can help you earn as you learn – gaining a university-level or professional qualification that kickstarts your momentum.

Is this right for you?

To be eligible for our Higher Apprenticeship scheme, you need to have either 80 UCAS points (or predicted) from 2017 onwards; or 200 UCAS points pre-2017; or a year’s work experience. If you’re not sure about your UCAS points, you can check that here. Don’t worry though – if you don’t have any of those, our Foundation Apprenticeship doesn’t have any qualification requirements at all.

An inside view

You know the big picture now, but what’s it really like to experience our Higher Apprenticeships? Let some of our current cohort tell you about it:

A career that keeps building

Unlike university, your graduation isn’t the end of your time with us. After your apprenticeship, you’ll be able to move onto a full-time role at Barclays, or perhaps onto one of our graduate programmes

Either way, you'll be encouraged to keep up your momentum and aspire to new ambitions. Here's how Sam did it:

Sam's story:

To be completely honest, I never thought my application would go anywhere. Why would a bank hire me? I didn’t think I’d get a call back, let alone get the job. After all, my experience of audit in the past was very limited. I did do a little bit of it in the Navy, but nothing like what I’m working on now.

My role initially was to assist on Audits, but I was quickly given my own responsibilities, and now my day to day is the same as any other auditor in the office.

At the same time, I also organise training, deliver presentations, and meet with stakeholders – as well as managing my studies. It’s a big challenge, but I’ve had a lot of support, and I know now that I want to stay in this department for as long as they’ll have me – even after my Higher Apprenticeship ends.

I think once you start, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to, really. For me, a highlight was the One Young World Summit. Barclays selected me as one of their twelve delegates, and I went all the way to Ottawa to hear from world leaders and to meet young people from all over the globe. It was my first trip away, and it set the bar pretty high for what I’ll achieve in the future.
