Four years. A wide range of roles. All within key teams. Whether it’s providing accounting, advisory or reporting services, the experiences you build here will shape the rest of your career.
There are various routes you could follow on our Higher Apprenticeship. Find the one that feels right for you.
You know the big picture now, but what’s it really like to experience our Higher Apprenticeships? Let some of our current cohort tell you about it:
It’s been a life-changing experience. I have been put in a position that I could have only dreamt of, and I’ve made my family so proud.
My current manager has regular catch ups with me to see how I’m getting on, and sometimes I think he has more belief in me than I do! I’ve always got someone looking out for me, making sure I’ve got time to study and putting me up for opportunities.
I’ve actually worked at Barclays for more than 10 years – first as a Cashier, then as a Moment Banker. I was eager to progress my career, but I made the decision to stay on in Retail until my children were old enough to give me more flexibility.
Unlike university, your graduation isn’t the end of your time with us. After your apprenticeship, you’ll be able to move onto a full-time role at Barclays, or perhaps onto one of our graduate programmes?
Either way, you'll be encouraged to keep up your momentum and aspire to new ambitions. Here's how Sam did it:
To be completely honest, I never thought my application would go anywhere. Why would a bank hire me? I didn’t think I’d get a call back, let alone get the job. After all, my experience of audit in the past was very limited. I did do a little bit of it in the Navy, but nothing like what I’m working on now.
My role initially was to assist on Audits, but I was quickly given my own responsibilities, and now my day to day is the same as any other auditor in the office.
At the same time, I also organise training, deliver presentations, and meet with stakeholders – as well as managing my studies. It’s a big challenge, but I’ve had a lot of support, and I know now that I want to stay in this department for as long as they’ll have me – even after my Higher Apprenticeship ends.
I think once you start, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to, really. For me, a highlight was the One Young World Summit. Barclays selected me as one of their twelve delegates, and I went all the way to Ottawa to hear from world leaders and to meet young people from all over the globe. It was my first trip away, and it set the bar pretty high for what I’ll achieve in the future.
Our interviews aren’t about trying to trip you up. The fact is, we want everyone to do well. The more diverse talent we can enable, the better. That’s why we’ve put together an in-depth guide to our Higher Apprenticeship application process – so that you can prepare and get ready to succeed with us.
